What is the Kelowna (Okanagan) Labour Market
At This Time? |

The Labour market has always been "tight." The unemployment rate has
fluctuated annually from 7.5 to 12%. However, the region is growing and
is vibrant. Due to the natural beauty of the area, many people want to
move to the Okanagan, which makes job search very competitive. |

Look Before You Leap! |

Our experience has shown that one has to research the area and companies
as to their needs; this means not blindly sending off your
résumé. Not only is this not professional, it is also a
waste of time for you and the company you are sending it to.
The average professional requires 4 to 6 months of serious job search
to secure employment in the Okanagan Valley.
There are many great opportunities, not in any particular sector, but
spread throughout the thousands of small businesses in the area. We are
experiencing an increase in unemployment due to the shutdown of the
Western Star plant and the downsizing of the Telus operation, but the
long term looks very promising. |

workshops and labour market information.
For companies facing change: Assistance in outplacement / transition or
employee services.
If you are Unemployed, and you live in Kelowna, contact Community
Employment Centre at (250) 860-4116. They will refer you to one of many
different employment service providers to assist you. This service is
provided by Human Resources Development Canada and is at no
charge to you.
We may be one of these employment service providers you are referred to.
Our mandate is to assist unemployed professionals and skilled in the
Central Okanagan.
